New University Flexible Work Arrangements Website

ECU’s Flexible Work Arrangements and Remote Work Regulation (Regulation) was approved as an interim regulation on June 16, 2021, and approved as a permanent regulation on March 20, 2023. The Regulation was created in partnership with guidance from the UNC System Office and lessons learned here at ECU. The Regulation outlines the continuing availability of Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) options, such as remote and flexible work schedules, that departments can consider.

In the Summer and Fall of 2022, a cross-functional work team was formed to review the Regulation and the current university practices related to FWAs. The work team identified several opportunities for improvement in the university’s practices and resources related to FWAs. While the work team determined that the then interim Regulation did not require alteration, the university could improve the consistency of how FWAs are approved and utilized across the institution. As a first step toward increasing the support of FWAs at ECU, a new Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) website is now available for employees utilizing flexible work arrangements and for those that supervise these employees. Additionally, as a response to the feedback from the work team, the Regulation was made permanent on March 20, 2023.

The FWA website offers a centralized location for information, resources, and guidance for flexible work arrangements at ECU. This includes information regarding Remote Work and Flexible Work Schedules at ECU. The website also answers Frequently Asked Questions related to FWAs and establishes standardized FWA Rules. Additionally, the website provides links to Tools, Training, and Forms to assist University employees.

The Flexible Work Arrangements at ECU website will continue to be updated as the University implements new practices, procedures, resources, and guidance related to Flexible Work Arrangements.
