How do I access my eBenefits portal?
Employees can complete enrollment and make changes online through their eBenefits enrollment portal. To login, employees should use their ECU login credentials. The preferred browsers for accessing the eBenefits enrollment site are Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome.
Employees who’d prefer to complete their enrollment by phone can contact the Enrollment and Eligibility Customer Support Center at 855-859-0966.

When does my coverage begin?
Eligible new-hires (or employees newly eligible for coverage due to an employment status change) have 30 calendar days starting from their hire or eligibility date to enroll in coverage. The coverage effective date would be the first day of the month following the month in which the hire date or status change date occurred.
If an existing employee is making changes during open enrollment, the changes made will take effect the beginning of the next plan year.
If an existing employee experiences a qualifying life event (QLE) within the plan year, the effective date of coverage will depend on the type of event and the event date. Supporting documentation may be required and the change to benefits must take place within 30 days of the event date. Employees who have experienced a valid QLE must make any necessary changes in eBenefits and Empyrean within 30 days of the event.
When can I make changes to my plans?
Employees may change plans every year during open enrollment. The changes made during open enrollment will become effective the beginning of the next plan year.
If an employee experiences a qualifying life event (QLE) during the year, an employee may add or drop coverage outside of open enrollment. Supporting documentation may be required and the change to benefits must take place within 30 days of the event date. Employees who have experienced a valid QLE must make any necessary changes in eBenefits and Empyrean within 30 days of the event. When does coverage end?
If an employee separates from the University, NCFlex and UNC System benefits terminate on the last day of the month in which the separation occurs as long as the monthly premiums are paid. Premium catch-ups may be applied to an employee’s last paycheck or leave payout (if applicable) to ensure premiums are paid in full for the last month of coverage.
When NCFlex coverage is lost due to termination of employment or other losses of eligibility, employees and covered dependents may continue certain benefits. For additional details, refer to NCFlex Coverage Continuation Options at Termination.
