Winter Holiday Break 2024 for Leave Clerks
During the winter break, ECU employees, excluding ECU Health Physicians Academic Practice (legacy ECU Physicians) employees scheduled to work as clinics remain open, will be required to use leave time for Monday, December 23rd, 2024, Monday, December 30th, 2024, and Tuesday, December 31st, 2024. Employees will be able to use vacation, bonus leave, compensatory time, and personal observance leave for these three days.
Please be reminded that, per policy, unpaid leave for December 23rd, December 30th, and December 31st, 2024, as with all short periods of leave without pay, can only be approved after an employee has exhausted all vacation leave, bonus leave, special bonus leave, and special annual bonus leave. Please also be reminded that any accrued compensatory time must be used before vacation leave.
Employees who choose to engage in any volunteer activities during normal work hours in accordance with the Community Service Leave Policy (the Policy) on December 23rd, December 30th, and December 31st, 2024, will be eligible to use Community Service Leave upon receipt of approval from their supervisor so long as it otherwise complies with the Policy (e.g., acceptable proof that leave is being utilized in accordance with the purpose of the Policy).
In the event a new employee does not have adequate vacation/annual leave, bonus leave, and/or compensatory leave, the supervisor or leave clerk should submit a Request to Reduce Pay form, which can be found here, to Payroll no later than Monday, December 9th, 2024.
Any questions related to the winter break should be directed to Employee Relations at employeerelations@ecu.edu.
